I was tipped off this morning (thanks, Danielle!) to another “downticket” win for transpeople last night: Tyler Titus won a seat on the Erie, PA, School Board. Mr Titus, a professional counselor and father of two boys, is the first out transperson ever elected in the state of Pennsylvania.
…three wins for transpeople last night. This is absolutely huge, and I hope the trend continues; there is no reason why transgender people should not be able to be elected to seats of leadership in this country–the only thing that’s been holding us back is bigotry…but as last night’s broader results showed, there is a limit to how much campaigns of bigotry and hate can be effective.
